ISTANBUL — Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi held talks in Istanbul with Haluk Görgün, chairman of Turkey’s Defence Industry Agency, during the SAHA 2026 exhibition, Somali officials said Thursday.

The discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation in defence and security, military capacity-building, and strategic initiatives to strengthen Somalia’s defence capabilities, according to a statement released by the Somali government.

The two sides also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation between Somalia and Turkey, particularly in military training, defence technology development, and security-related support.

The meeting forms part of Somalia’s broader efforts to deepen international partnerships and enhance the operational capacity of its armed forces as the Horn of Africa nation continues security reforms and operations against Islamist militants.
