MOGADISHU, May 15, 2026 — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday inaugurated the new headquarters of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Mogadishu, describing the facility as a symbol of the government’s efforts to strengthen youth services and promote sports development across the country.
Speaking during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Hassan Sheikh said the modern building carried greater significance than many government facilities funded through foreign donations, noting that it was constructed using Somali financial resources, expertise and local innovation.
He said the project reflected the government’s commitment to empowering Somali youth, whom he described as the backbone of the country’s future, peace and development.
In a wide-ranging speech, the president also highlighted what he called achievements by the federal government in security, democratization, preparations for direct elections, constitutional reforms and efforts to consolidate state institutions.
Hassan Sheikh said the completion of Somalia’s constitution had been given special priority in line with promises made to the Somali public, adding that future government policies and institutional frameworks would be guided by the finalized constitution.
He said the constitutional framework would serve as the basis for defining the mandates of state institutions, regulating the separation of powers and strengthening governance founded on the rule of law, accountability and public representation.
