A cargo plane from Uganda Crash-Lands at Somalia airport

JOWHAR, Somalia – A cargo plane carrying food and other supplies to the ATMIS troops crashed today at the Jowhar airport after it veered off the runway.

 

The manager of the airport, Jowhar Mukhtar Abukar, who spoke to the state media, said that the staff of the plane were evacuated safely.

He said that the plane with the logistics, took off from Uganda, and was en route to Jowhar, a city located 90 kilometers north of Mogadishu, the Somali capital.

The plane was badly damaged. He said it happened in a forest area on the side of the airport field. The accident did not affect the smooth flight operations.

It is not known why the plane crashed, however, the manager said that it is believed that the error came from the pilot. Although he said that an investigation is being carried out.

The AU mission has not yet commented on this incident.
