The President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo who is attending the 35th African Union Summit delivered a keynote address at the African Union Peace and Security Council presenting a report on the overall peace and security situation in Africa.

The President, highlighting the significant achievements made by the Federal Government of Somalia in the fight against terrorism and restoring peace in the country, noted the importance of our continent’s commitment to eradicating Al-Shabaab and other terrorist organizations.

“Al-Shabaab terrorists pose a threat to the lives of people in Africa. The plans of the Peace and Security Council must be unified in all our efforts to counter the threat posed by Al Shabaab terrorists and other extremist groups. ”

The President noted that the Federal Government of Somalia is committed to taking responsibility for its national security, and underlined that they are fully prepared to implement the agreement reached between the Government of Somalia and the Peace and Security Council in January this year. the path to security takeover is based on the guidance and direction of the Somali government.

“Somalia has made great strides in recent years in terms of security, rebuilding the army and weakening Al Shabaab terrorists, and as a result, Somalia is now in the process of taking full responsibility for its national security. ”

On the second day of the conference, the President and his delegation will present the Federal Government of Somalia’s vision for the future of Africa and Somalia’s efforts to fight terrorism, recover from the effects of COVID-19, and respond to floods. Drought protection, locust control, and other issues concerning Somalia and the African continent.
