Mogadishu police raid a boarding school in a land grab attempt

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Police in Mogadishu under backlash following violent raid on a boarding school in the capital without a court order.

 

The founder of Hamar Boarding school Abdirahman Yusuf was seen being assulted and dragged on the ground by the police, according to a CCTV footage.

The 70-year-old school owner suffered wounds in the police torture and he pleaded for justice and bring the perpetrators to the court.

The command of Mogadishu police was accused of giving the order to attack the private school in KM4 area which educates tomorrow’s generation.

A bulldozer was used for the demolishing of the school building, mainly the rooms accommodating the orphans. Some students were subjected to torture during the attack.

The school management described the police raid as an attempt of a land grab by businessmen who are using the security forces in Mogadishu.

The building belongs to the ministry of education. In a letter dated 17th April 2017, the ministry clarified that it allowed the director of Hoyga Hamar Abdirahman Yusuf Mohamud to temporarily use it.

Since president Hassan Sheikh left the capital for the frontlines to coordinate war on Al-Shabaab, police in Mogadishu involved in a massive land grab.
