MOGADISHU — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has provided $80,000 in compensation to the families of four people killed during clashes in Galmudug in June.

NISA’s Galmudug regional commander, Col. Hussein Farah Elmi, known as Dubbad, who represented NISA Director-General Mahad Mohamed Salad, handed over the funds to the families on Thursday.

Each family received $20,000 as part of a compensation pledge made by the NISA chief during a peace conference held in Ali Ganey following the clashes in Ali Ganey and Hirsi-Lugey areas.

The handover ceremony was attended by Guriceel District Commissioner Farah Abdi Macallin and Balanbale District Commissioner Abdi Aziz Hashi Ali.

Authorities said the peace talks have helped restore calm across areas stretching from western Galmudug to the eastern Qoraxey region, with local communities welcoming improved stability and hopes for lasting peace.
