BOSASO, Somalia — Puntland’s security forces on Thursday took full control of the headquarters and facilities previously occupied by an armed group formerly known as the Puntland Security Force (PSF), authorities said.
The Puntland Defense Forces said the base is now under the full control of the regional government, with security and administrative authority restored.
The takeover followed a planned security operation in the central town of Galkayo a day earlier, targeting armed groups accused by Puntland authorities of threatening security, stability and public order in the region.
During the Galkayo operation, Puntland forces arrested 101 suspects and detained 60 injured individuals, while also seizing weapons, ammunition, vehicles and military equipment, including police uniforms, handcuffs, police boots and other supplies. Authorities said some of the seized items were part of equipment donated by the Chinese government to the Somali Police Force.
Puntland’s Defense Forces said the operations were being carried out in accordance with the constitution and national laws, with the aim of protecting civilians, strengthening state institutions and upholding the rule of law.
The forces called on armed groups and individuals still operating in different areas to surrender to Puntland authorities and return to the legal system, while warning that anyone providing shelter, support or assistance to fugitives would face legal action.
Puntland authorities have urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and report information related to security threats through the emergency number 999, promising confidentiality and protection for informants.
