Philip Barton pays a visit to Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has received Sir Philip Barton, the Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom at his office.

 

The discussions between the two sides revolved around enhancing the strong bilateral relationship between Somalia and the UK.

Key topics addressed included the crucial areas of security, stabilization, climate finance, and broader developmental efforts in Somalia.

The British Army has trained its 500th Somali soldiers in the essential infantry skills they need to combat armed groups and ensure security and stability in the country.

The latest batch of 113 troops marked the end of their training with a ceremony in Baidoa, Somalia on 31 December.

The UK announces funding to UNSOS in support of a safer Somalia.

The United Kingdom announced a further £5 million of support for the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) to provide non-lethal support to Somali Security Forces.
