Mogadishu, Somalia — Shabelle Media Network has been named the Best Media Outlet of 2025 at the Somali Business Award event, held on Thursday in Mogadishu, organisers said.
The influential broadcaster secured the top media honour following a nationwide public vote, with organisers citing its “consistent reporting, impactful programming and strong connection with audiences across the country.”
Shabelle, one of Somalia’s longest-running media networks, founded in 2002, was praised for its ability to deliver timely news coverage despite operating in a challenging security environment.
The committee said the outlet had “demonstrated professionalism, credibility, and resilience,” qualities that helped it stand out in this year’s competition.
Representatives from Shabelle Media Network, who received the award during the ceremony, said the recognition was “an important encouragement” and pledged to continue strengthening the organisation’s editorial standards and public service mission.
The Somali Business Award — now in its sixth year — honours companies, innovators and public figures contributing to the country’s economic and social development.
This year’s ceremony featured accolades across sectors, including finance, healthcare, technology, and youth entrepreneurship.
Shabelle Media Network has won to be for the best radio station in the world for 2010.
