MOGADISHU — The Commander of Somalia’s Ground Forces, Gen. Sahal Adullaahi Omar, met with his Turkish counterpart, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, Gen. Metin Tokel, in a high-level bilateral meeting aimed at strengthening military collaboration between the two nations.
During the discussions, both commanders focused on several key areas, including enhancing joint operational coordination, advancing the capabilities of the Somali National Army (SNA), and intensifying cooperative efforts in defense strategy and planning. Specific attention was given to accelerating ongoing training programs, improving troop readiness, and modernizing military procedures to better respond to security challenges.
The two sides also examined ways to expand professional development programs for Somali forces, including leadership training, tactical exercises, and capacity-building initiatives, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration to achieve long-term security and stability in Somalia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Gen. Sahal Cabdullaahi thanked Gen. Tokel for Turkey’s consistent support and solidarity, highlighting the “unwavering assistance” provided by the Turkish forces in the rebuilding and development of the Somali National Army. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to continued close military cooperation with Turkey.
Both commanders expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership would contribute significantly to enhancing Somalia’s defense capabilities and regional security.
