ELDHER, Somalia  – The commander of Somali National Army (SNA) Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin Addow paid a visit to troops on the Frontline.

Accompanied by senior SNA officers, Addow addressed the combat soldiers about the government plan to kick start the second phase of the war against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

“We are at war with a terrorist and dangerous group, so we must fight them and liberate our country at any cost,” said SNA boss.

He spent several hours with the troops in Eldher area in Galgadud region in central Somalia, where the SNA faced Al-Shabaab in fierce battles since 2022.

Addow’s visit comes days after SNA and local clan militia pulled out of key areas in southern Mudug region, giving Al-Shabaab a chance to make a quick return without fight.

The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh declared a total war against Al-Shabaab month after his election in May 2022.

During the first phase of the offensive, the SNA captured dozens of villages in Galmudug and HirShsbelle States.
