GOOBANLE, Somalia — Somali National Army commandos from the Danab special forces unit have conducted a search-and-destroy operation in Goobanle, an area linking the Lower Shabelle and Bay regions, targeting suspected al-Shabab militants, according to a military report.

The operation targeted members of the al-Qaida-linked militant group who were reportedly hiding in the area. Some suspects were arrested, while others remain at large and are being pursued, the report said.

The operation was aimed at preventing security threats affecting civilians and strengthening security in the area, according to the report.

Danab forces said the mission was also part of broader efforts to maintain stability in areas previously recovered from al-Shabab and prevent attempts to undermine security.

The special forces unit said it would continue operations against the militant group to help safeguard peace and stability across Somalia.

The report did not provide details on the number of people arrested or whether weapons and other equipment were seized during the operation.
