BANGKOK, Thailand — Somalia’s Finance Minister Biixi Iimaan Cige has handed over his role representing 22 member countries on the World Bank’s Development Committee, marking the end of his two-year term, Somalia’s government said.
Cige attended the 32nd meeting of Africa Group 1, where he reflected on his tenure and thanked the group’s member countries for their trust, cooperation and support during his time in the position.
During his term, the minister played a role in discussions on global development priorities and issues affecting the countries represented by the group, according to the Somali government.
At the meeting in Bangkok, Cige formally transferred the position to the representative of Sierra Leone, congratulating his successor and wishing him success in carrying out the responsibilities of the role.
The World Bank’s Development Committee brings together representatives of member countries to discuss development issues and provide guidance on the work of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Somalia’s participation in the group provides an opportunity to engage with other African countries on international development priorities and issues affecting their economies.
Cige’s handover marks the conclusion of his two-year period representing the 22 countries in Africa Group 1 on the committee.
