Somali Govt says senior Al-Shabaab commanders killed in army operation

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The government of Somalia said its troops along with foreign partners killed senior Al-Shabaab commanders in Gumarka Cosobow Ali village near ​​Ruun-Nirgood district in the Middle Shabelle region during a joint military operation.

 

The military operation took place on the 12th of this month, according to the Ministry of Information which said the allied forces targeted a vehicle carrying the commanders.

The government said that it is committed to the elimination of al-Shabaab, which has faced military pressure from multiple fronts since last year when President Hassan Sheikh came to power.

The slain leaders are as follows:

1. Salad Dheere, the head of Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle region, has previously served as shadow governor of the Galgaduud region.

2. Abdullahi Ailow, a commander of more than 300 fighters based in the Middle Shabelle.

3. Shuayb, a senior figure within the group used to operating in the Middle Shabelle region.

4. Abdullahi Madobe”, whose real name was Abdikarin, served as head of the explosions in the Middle Shabelle region, he also operated in Galgaduud.

5. Bagaha, the leader of the Al-Shabaab planned attacks in Daru-nimca and Ali-heel.

6. Saylici was a sub-leader of the media wing, Alkata’ib.

7. Ahmed Mohamed, known as Xerow operated in Hiran and Galgaduud regions.
