MOGADISHU, Somalia, May 23 — Somalia’s naval forces are continuing escort and protection operations for support vessels operating along the country’s coastline, Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence said on Friday.
In a statement, the ministry said the Somali Navy was currently providing security and operational support to the vessel “Çağrı Bey” as well as support ships identified as “Korkut”, “Altan” and “Sancar”.
The Turkish defence ministry said the operations form part of broader efforts to strengthen maritime security and safeguard vessels operating in Somali waters.
It added that Somali naval forces were increasing their role in securing the country’s coastline amid ongoing cooperation between Turkey and Somalia on defence and security matters.
The Somali government has repeatedly stressed the importance of rebuilding and modernising the country’s naval forces to improve maritime security and protect national marine resources.
