Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s bicameral parliament held a joint sitting of its seventh session on Saturday at the House of the People in Mogadishu, with Speaker of the Lower House Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe) presiding alongside the deputy speakers of both chambers.
The main item on the agenda was the third reading and vote on the 2024 national budget execution report submitted by the Ministry of Finance.
Abdi Ibrahim Warsame (Qowdhan), chair of the parliamentary committee on Budget, Finance, Planning, International Cooperation and Government Oversight, presented the final committee report, noting that both budget committees of the Upper and Lower Houses had jointly reviewed the document over recent weeks.
Lawmakers from both houses then voted on the budget execution report, with 167 MPs voting in favour, two against, and one abstaining.
Closing the session, Speaker Madoobe said parliament faces a demanding legislative workload during the current session, adding that both houses will prioritise the review and completion of the provisional constitution, a longstanding national objective.
