MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali Police Force Commander Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi on Saturday held talks in Mogadishu with the chairperson of the country’s Independent National Human Rights Commission, Maryam Qasim, on strengthening cooperation in the protection of human rights.
A statement said the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the police and the commission, particularly on the protection of human rights, accountability, handling public complaints, and oversight of prisons and detention centres.
The delegation led by Maryam Qasim also included Deputy Chairperson Mohamed Harun, Director General Mustafa Ahmed and other commission officials.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of reinforcing safeguards for citizens’ rights while upholding the rule of law and respect for human rights, the statement added.
