MOGADISHU, Somalia – The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti on an unannounced visit to rally support for his country as it fights Al-Shabaab.
According to the sources, Mohamud held a meeting with Ismail Omar Guelleh, and discussed ways to cooperate in the eradication of Al-Shabaab which poses a potent threat to the Horn of Africa.
Somali president asked his counterpart to provide vital support for the war on Al-Shabaab as Djibouti was part of frontline states pledged to take part second phase of military operation to wipe out the militants.
Kenya and Ethiopia were also expected to dispatch troops to Somalia but no country delivered on its promises and reasons not yet nestablished.
The three neighbours contributed troops to AU mission in Somalia and now they are withdrawing their soldiers in line with UN Security Council Resolutions.
Somali president has been based in Dhusamareb for months to coordinate the military operations which face setbacks due to Al-Shabaab counterattack.
The government of Somalia is reported to have asked the UN Security Council to delay the drawdown of ATMIS for 90 days due to the current situation.
