MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received Muslim World League Secretary-General and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, at the National Presidential Palace, the presidency said.
The two discussed strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the Muslim World League, with a focus on promoting a proper understanding of Islam, preventing and combating extremist ideology, and advancing peace, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
Hassan thanked the Muslim World League for its support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, as well as its role in social development, according to a statement from the presidency.
The president also stressed the importance of stronger cooperation to counter extremist ideologies and prevent the radicalization and misleading of young people.
Al-Issa’s visit comes as Somalia continues efforts to address the influence of extremist groups and promote religious and social initiatives aimed at strengthening community resilience.
The meeting also highlighted the role of Islamic institutions in supporting peace and stability in Somalia, where the government has sought greater engagement with religious scholars and international Muslim organizations in its efforts to counter extremist narratives.
The Muslim World League, headquartered in Saudi Arabia, is an international Islamic organization that promotes Islamic dialogue, cooperation and understanding among Muslim communities and with other faiths.
