ANTALYA, Turkey — Somalia’s president met Serbia’s prime minister Saturday on sidelines of a diplomacy forum, discussing stronger bilateral relations and cooperation.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks with Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, focusing on deepening ties between countries.
The leaders emphasized longstanding relations between Somalia and Serbia, dating back to 1960 and the Non-Aligned Movement, as a basis for future cooperation.
Macut reaffirmed Serbia’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and non-interference, while praising Somalia’s stance on international law and United Nations principles.
Both sides said there is significant potential to expand cooperation and agreed to strengthen engagement at multiple levels between governments and institutions.
Discussions also covered security cooperation and economic opportunities, particularly in oil, gas and natural resources, with Somalia highlighting its untapped mineral wealth.
Somalia invited Serbian companies to explore investment opportunities, emphasizing respect for its sovereignty, legal framework, and regulatory systems governing natural resource development projects.
The leaders also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in education through student exchanges, university partnerships, and increasing trade while strengthening ties between business communities.
