Somali president meets with UN chief in New York


NEW YORK – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with the Secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres in New York, United States of America.


Both sides have discussed the emergency aid for the drought and the development projects in the country as well the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The President expressed his commitment to the fight against terrorism and to restoring the stability of the country following three decades of conflict.

He shared with the Secretary of the United Nations, the ongoing struggle of the Somali army and people to liberate the country from terrorism.

António Guterres welcomed the President’s views on the restructuring of development projects carried out in the country and pointed out that the President’s recommendations and suggestions are based on their plans, and also accelerate the role of the International Community in drought relief.

The UN chief praised the people and the government of Somalia for their commitment to the development of the economy, debt relief, building infrastructure, and finding solutions to the current situation, including drought and floods.
