DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with some members of the Women’s Association last night in Dhusamareb.

Accompanied by the President of Galmudug Ahmed Qorqor, Mohamud urged the Somali women to play their role in the war on Al-Shabaab and support the armed forces.

The women’s role could be raising public awareness in the fight against the Al-Shabaab, urging them back against the government which is making a struggle to liberate Somalia.

The women representatives shared with the President their views on the fight to eradicate Al-Shabaab, promising that they will always stand by their sons on the war frontlines.

The president of Somalia is in the third week in Dhusamareb, in an effort to speed up the war against Al-Shabaab as SNA is on the verge of concluding the first phase in Galmudug.

In August 2022, Mohamud launched a “total war” against al-Shabaab. In the first phase, Somali forces concentrated on the central regions of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, supporting local clans that were rebelling against al-Shabaab.

The terrorist group had seen public support deteriorate in those areas after it raised taxes on residents to make up for losses incurred from an economic downturn and natural disasters, disregarding the effects of the policy on people’s livelihoods.

The first stage was the most effective offensive since 2016, expelling al-Shabaab from areas it had controlled for over a decade, and in March 2023 the government launched phase two to attack al-Shabaab in the south.
