MOGADISHU — An 11-year-old orphan boy was shot dead in a Mogadishu neighbourhood, allegedly by a Somali army officer who complained about children playing near his home, relatives and witnesses said.
The incident occurred in the Haanta Dheer area of the capital, where a group of children had been playing outside when the officer, reportedly angered by their noise, emerged from his house and opened fire with a pistol, killing the boy instantly, family members told local media.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remained at large on Tuesday. Security forces were searching for him, according to the boy’s relatives, who spoke to Shabelle Radio.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, which has sparked anger among residents calling for accountability and justice for the child.
