TUNIS, Tunisia — Somalia’s Office of the Auditor General participated in a workshop organized by the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) in Tunis from September 1 to 5, focusing on international public-sector accounting standards.
The workshop examined the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), with particular attention to IPSAS 1 and IPSAS 3 and their application in preparing and presenting government financial statements.
Participants exchanged knowledge on financial reporting, accounting policies, changes in accounting estimates following new information and the correction of errors in financial statements.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for audit institutions from Arab countries to share experiences in applying IPSAS and discuss how the standards can improve the quality and reliability of government financial reporting.
Somalia’s participation was part of efforts to strengthen the professional knowledge and skills of staff at the Office of the Auditor General and improve the quality of public-sector financial audits.
The office said such programmes support the adoption of international professional standards and contribute to strengthening financial oversight and accountability within Somalia’s public institutions.
