MOGADISHU, July 25, 2025 – Somalia’s federal government on Friday accused Jubaland regional president Ahmed Madobe of inciting violence in the southern Gedo region following a deadly clash in the town of Beled-Xaawo.
The attack, which targeted National Army positions and civilian areas, resulted in civilian casualties. Authorities allege the assault was carried out by troops loyal to Madobe, to escalate existing tensions and expand what the government describes as his “ongoing pattern of criminal acts.”
“This is a calculated attempt to deepen divisions among the people of Jubaland, particularly in Gedo, where Madobe has long been accused of committing serious abuses,” the Ministry of National Security said in a statement.
The federal government reiterated its commitment to holding all individuals accountable for acts of violence and destabilization, naming Madobe as a primary suspect. The statement called on the people of Jubaland, especially those in Gedo, to reject incitement and “remain vigilant” against what it described as attempts to prolong conflict.
The Ministry of Security, in coordination with legal and intelligence agencies, said it is monitoring individuals involved in what it called the “systematic violation of citizens’ rights and the spilling of innocent blood,” adding that several names have already been documented.
“The federal government, in line with its constitutional mandate, will take all necessary legal measures to prevent further abuses and ensure that perpetrators do not operate with impunity,” the statement said.
