MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Justice, Hassan Moalim, and the newly appointed Prisons Commandant, Gen. Hamud, visited the home of Gen. Mahad Abdirahman amid reports of troop deployment at his residence in Mogadishu following his dismissal.

Government officials discussed the upcoming handover of the Prisons Command with General Mahad, sources told Shabelle Media.

The Sources close to Gen. Mahad said the transfer of authority for the Prisons Command is scheduled for next Saturday.

Gen. Mahad, who remains under house arrest with a contingent of Haramcad soldiers stationed at his residence, has not been confirmed for release by the federal government once the command is handed over.

Some politicians view the potential release of the imprisoned commander and the federal government’s operations in Southwest State as interconnected.

The meeting marks a rare direct engagement between federal authorities and a high-profile political prisoner, highlighting the sensitive nature of security and governance issues in Somalia’s regional states.
