KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait — Somalia’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hassan Maalim Mohamud has held talks with Rana Al-Fares, head of Kuwait’s anti-corruption authority, on strengthening cooperation to combat corruption and improve government accountability.
The meeting focused on sharing expertise and practices in preventing and fighting corruption, building institutional capacity and promoting transparency and accountability within government institutions, Somalia’s Justice Ministry said.
Al-Fares proposed closer cooperation between the two countries through the exchange of knowledge and experience, highlighting the importance of learning from effective practices and procedures used in the fight against corruption.
Mohamud welcomed the proposal and stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between Somali and Kuwaiti institutions, including training programmes and capacity-building initiatives.
The Somali minister said stronger institutional capacity would help improve efforts to prevent corruption and enhance transparency within government agencies.
The discussions form part of Somalia’s broader efforts to strengthen public institutions and improve governance through greater cooperation with international partners.
Both sides also emphasized the value of exchanging technical knowledge and institutional experience to support more effective anti-corruption measures.
The meeting in Kuwait comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen accountability and transparency in public institutions as part of its wider state-building agenda.
