MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Somali government held a mourning event in Mogadishu to commemorate the victims of the Soobe 2 bombings, which took place on 29 October 2022.

Ministers and hundreds of people, including those who lost their loved ones participated in the mourning at the Ministry of Education, which was the site of the deadly bomb attack.

Placards with the names of those who died in the explosions were displayed in the place, to make a memorial mourning. The government said that among the dead were young students who sought certificates from the Ministry of Education.

Somalia’s Minister of Education, Farah Sheikh Abdikadir, said that the Somali people should be prepared to participate in the war to end Al-Shabaab, which he blamed for being responsible for two devastating bombings in the Zoobe area in 2017 and 2022.

He said that the government provided free education to children affected by the blasts.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi called for the support of the Somali armed forces in the current war launched to eliminate Al-Shabaab militant group.

Al-Shabaab claimed to be behind the blasts, saying they targeted the headquarters of the Ministry of Education of Somalia which is located along the busy Zoobe road in the capital.

The government said more than 100 people died in the car bomb explosions, one of the deadliest attacks in Mogadishu in recent years by the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab group.
