MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has praised the country’s security forces for their efforts to improve security in the capital Mogadishu and across Somalia.
Hamza attended a ceremony organised jointly by the Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Army command to honour troops for their role in securing the capital and other parts of the country.
The event was attended by the defence and interior ministers, as well as the governor of Banadir region and mayor of Mogadishu. Senior commanders from Somalia’s security and intelligence agencies, the national army and police also took part.
Before the ceremony, Hamza met senior military and security officials and received a briefing on the security situation in Mogadishu.
According to the briefing, security incidents in the capital declined by 86.06 percent between 2023 and 2026, which officials attributed to the implementation of a coordinated security plan.
Addressing the security commanders, Hamza urged them to maintain their efforts to protect the capital and the wider country.
“No one should be allowed to play with security, whoever they may be,” Hamza said, praising the security forces for what he described as their achievements in improving security in Mogadishu and elsewhere.
He also stressed the importance of continued cooperation among the country’s security institutions to protect civilians and maintain stability in the capital.
