MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s House of the People on Saturday approved a bill on international judicial cooperation, while advancing amendments to the country’s Central Bank law.
The lawmakers held their 19th session of the eighth parliamentary term, chaired by Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow.
The international judicial cooperation bill was approved by 130 lawmakers, while nine voted against it and two abstained, according to the results announced by Abshirow.
The House also gave a second reading to a bill amending Somalia’s Central Bank Law No. 130, enacted on April 22, 2012.
Lawmakers debated provisions of the proposed amendments and questioned officials from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Central Bank of Somalia, who attended the session.
At the end of the session, lawmakers were given the second-reading report on agreements between Somalia and Turkey concerning international judicial cooperation.
The parliamentary proceedings come as Somalia continues to strengthen its legal and institutional frameworks, including cooperation with foreign governments on judicial matters.
