Mogadishu — Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Friday congratulated Somali workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, praising their role in national development and economic recovery.

In a statement marking May 1, Barre commended workers across all sectors for what he described as their “essential contribution” to state-building, economic growth and the strengthening of public services.

“You are the backbone of security, the economy and the construction of a modern and advanced state,” the prime minister said. “Despite difficult circumstances, you have continued to contribute to the visible progress of our country.”

He added that the government remains committed to protecting workers’ rights, expanding employment opportunities and improving professional skills to ensure a workforce capable of meeting modern demands.

Barre urged Somali workers to intensify their efforts in support of national reconstruction and development, wishing them prosperity, success and a better future.
