DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – The war against Al-Shabaab needs a united front, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said during a meeting in Galmudug state capital, Dhusamareb city.

The head of state held talks with speakers of the two houses of the Parliament, army officers and regional officials on the speed up of the ongoing military operations in Somalia.

Mohamur went on to say the government is committed to liberate the country from Al-Shabaab but it cannot win alone, calling on public to play their role in the war.

The country’s top leaders – President and speakers of Senate and Lower House are in Dhusamareb to oversee and coordinate the operations by Somali army and clan militias battling Al-Shabaab.

Since the launch of the offensive in August 2022, the SNA pushed Al-Shabaab put of key areas in Hirshabelle and Galmudug but the mission faces challenges as Al-Shabaab staged attacks on Military bases, including Cawsweyne (Osweine), where it killed dozens of soldiers last month.

The base attack sparked retreat from key areas, including Elbur, hard-gained territories in Galgadud region under Galmudug state, in a shocking move that prompted reshuffle of the top brass of the army.
