ADAN YABAL, Somalia – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in the Adan-Yabaal district of the Middle Shabelle region of Hirshabelle State on Wednesday.

The President along with the leader of Hirshabelle State, Ali Gudlawe Hussein, the Commander of the Somali Armed Forces, Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyidin arrived in the central town by helicopter.

The head of the state travelled from Mahas town which lies eastern Hiran region, where he held a meeting with local community leaders, SNA soldiers and others on the Al-Shabaab war.

During his stay in Adan Yabal, which was recaptured in December 2022 by SNA, he will meet with army commanders and Ma’wisley fighters, who contributed to the fight against Al-Shabaab since the start of the offensive in August last year.

As the army makes retreats from some areas in Galmudug, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said military operations against al-Shabab will not stop until final victory is achieved.

The government is fighting Al-Shabaab which continues to conduct attacks both within Somalia and in neighboring states, targeting civilians, the Somali state, and the African Union forces in the country, who are set to exit next year.

In August 2022, Mohamud launched a “total war” against al-Shabaab. In the first phase, Somali forces concentrated on the central regions of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, supporting local clans that were rebelling against al-Shabaab.
