Somalia receives funding from World Food Programme

CAIRO [SMN] – The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Abdiwahab Ugas Hussein Khalif met with World Food Programme (WFP) representative in Somalia, Elkhidir Daluum (R). During the meeting, a USD 185 million co-operation agreement between Somalia and WFP was signed.

In the meeting, the Somali minister underscored the implementation of the country’s social aid programs as well as the agreement penned with WFP, appealing to all humanitarian aid agencies to enhance their responses to the repercussions of the drought in the country.

James Swan, head of the United Nations in Somalia, encouraged leaders of Somalia’s National Consultative Council to organize a schedule for the completion of the election process to be followed by the heads of the member states.

According to state-owned Somali News Agency, Swan asked the Council to address shortfalls and make the election process more transparent and credible, stressing the continued support to the implementation of the agreements from September 17, 2020, and May 27, 2021, adding that the Council is the main source of the election process.
