MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has congratulated the nation, particularly the sports community, on the historic achievement of Somali international referee Omar Abdulqadir Cartan, who was named Africa’s Referee of the Year 2025 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Somali people in general, and to the sports fraternity in particular, for the success achieved by international referee Umar Abdulqadir Cartan, who was awarded Africa’s Referee of the Year 2025 by CAF,” President Mohamud said.
The president described Cartan as a symbol of skill, resilience, and professional excellence, highlighting the talent and dedication of Somali youth.
“Referee Cartan exemplifies the competence, determination, and high-level professionalism of our youth, elevating Somalia’s name and representing our young generation on the international stage. This historic achievement is a testament to that,” he added.
