GALMUDUG, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said that strengthening peace and national unity was the main message of his visit to Galmudug, as he addressed residents during a luncheon held in his honour.

Speaking at the event, Hassan Sheikh briefed the public on what he described as progress in key national priorities, including security, state-building, completion of the constitution and the implementation of a direct electoral system.

The president said efforts to strengthen Somalia’s institutions and improve security remained central to the government’s agenda, while highlighting progress made in the country’s political and constitutional processes.

He urged residents to support national priorities and play an active role in efforts aimed at strengthening security, national unity, state institutions and development.

The visit to Galmudug comes as Somalia continues efforts to consolidate federal institutions and advance political reforms amid ongoing security challenges and debates over the country’s electoral process.

Hassan Sheikh has repeatedly called for greater cooperation between communities and political stakeholders as the government works to advance its national agenda.
