South West Somalia leader appoints new cabinet of 26 ministers

BAIDOA, Somalia — The leader of Somalia’s South West regional state has appointed a new cabinet comprising 26 ministers, as part of efforts to strengthen government operations and improve public services, the regional administration said.

 

In a decree issued on July 10, 2026, South West President said the appointments were made in accordance with the regional constitution and aimed at improving efficiency, accountability and the delivery of services to residents.

The new cabinet includes ministers overseeing key portfolios, including security, finance, planning, health, education, agriculture, energy, justice and internal affairs.

Isaak Mohamed Isack was appointed interior security minister, while Mohamed Osman Mohamed Ore was named minister for fisheries and blue economy. Cabdulqaadir Omar Abdullahi Baasto was appointed planning, investment and economic development minister, and Hussein Mohamed Hagi was named finance minister.

The president also appointed three state ministers, including a state minister at the presidency, a finance state minister and a state minister for interior, local governments and reconciliation.

The formation of the new cabinet comes as South West authorities seek to advance development plans, strengthen security and expand social services across the regional state.
