BAIDOA, Somalia — The interim leader of Somalia’s SouthWest State, Jibril Abdirashid Haji, on Saturday visited polling stations where “one person, one vote” elections are underway for district councils and the state’s House of Representatives.

The visit aimed to assess the progress of the electoral process, the security of polling sites, and public participation in the vote, according to officials.

Jibril praised the efforts of electoral commissions, security forces and residents taking part in the vote peacefully, saying the implementation of the one-person-one-vote system is key to strengthening democracy and public representation in South West State.

He also urged the public to maintain peace, unity and transparency during the process to ensure a free and fair election.
