MOGADISHU, Somalia – Al-Shabaab Last night at around 1:40 am, attacked several local government centers in the Somali capital, Mogadishu amidst tight security measures.
The residents in Kahda district said they woke up to an attack by the Al-Shabaab on the Police Station, the District Administration Center, and two checkpoints manned by SNA.
According to reports, three government soldiers have been confirmed dead and others have been injured in the Al-Shabaab attack on military bases in Kahda.
One of the Al-Shabaab attacks that targeted the Kahda district station was a vehicle filled with explosives.
It is not known the actual damage caused, although the army later recaptured the base, after launching a counterattack.
Al-Shabaab also targeted an emergency vehicle with an explosion. They also used several rockets to hit the station before leaving.
The attack on Kahda district and other administrative centers, came at a time when the Somali government achieved great success in the war in the Galgaduud region to liberate the areas controlled by the group in the central region.
The Somali government has already said that al-Shabaab is trying to do whatever it takes to thwart the ongoing liberation operations.
