Hamza Abdi Barre accompanied by the ambassadors of Türkiye and China to Somalia, as well as the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, visited makeshift camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were affected by the El Nino floods in the Jubaland region.
The purpose of the visit was to shine a spotlight on the severe humanitarian conditions on the ground, according to a statement issued by the office of the Somali prime minister.
During the visit, Prime Minister Barre reiterated his plea for immediate humanitarian intervention for the affected communities as they are in urgent need of life-saving aid, as there is a critical shortage of food, sanitation, and other essential necessities.
