Somali PM lays foundation stone for a new airport in Afmadow

AFMADOW, Somalia  – Prime minister Hamza Abdi Barre is paying a long visit to Jubaland state, his constituency, where he is on mission to assess impact of flash floods and heavy rains.

 

Barre arrived in Afmadow district, a severely flood-affected town in Middle Jubba region on Thursday and met with victims, offering solace and support to those displaced by the devastating El Nino floods.

The Government of Somalia has pledged a continued and unwavering commitment to assist those affected by the current flood disaster in the Horn of Africa country.

The PM, Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe and Federal aviation minister laid the foundation stone for a new airport, set to catalyze development in Afmadow, which is the second major city under Madobe’s control.

“With a vision for enhanced connectivity and economic growth, this project holds immense potential for the region,” said the office of the prime minister in a statement.

Speaking at the event the Prime Minister emphasized the transformative power of this airport, fostering job creation, attracting investment, and unlocking opportunities for the local community.
