MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh is in Djibouti today to attend the IGAD summit after his country celebrated the lifting of the UN arms embargo.
The president has held a meeting with his counterpart of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, who is hosting the IGAD’s 41th conference focusing on the region’s crisis.
“The two leaders discussed the situation in the region, the fraternal ties between Somalia and Djibouti, and the cooperation in matters of mutual interest,” said Villa Somalia.
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in Djibouti last night, where he is attending the meeting of the Heads of State of the IGAD which has kicked off today.
The leaders will discuss the current situation in the country such as humanitarian issues, security, and the conflict in Sudan, which dominated the the 41st Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
The East Africa region stands at a critical juncture, with the ongoing conflict in Sudan casting a shadow over our aspirations of a peaceful and prosperous Greater Horn of Africa.
IGAD seeks an immediate establishment of a ceasefire agreement in Sudan, silencing the guns that have wreaked havoc on the lives of innocent civilians, according to the leaders.
