ASMARA, Eritrea – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in Asmara in the early afternoon hours today for a two-day working visit.
The President of Somalia and his delegation were accorded a warm welcome by President Isaias Afwerki on arrival at Asmara International Airport, according to Eritrean officials.
Afwerki and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will discuss the enhancement of bilateral ties as well as regional and international matters of mutual interest during the current visit.
President Hassan Sheikh will visit thousands of soldiers undergoing training at camps in Eritrea, who are expected to conclude their exercise and join the war on Al-Shabaab.
The first batch of several thousand Somali troops that were sent to Eritrea for training in 2019 and 2020 arrived back in Mogadishu in December 2022 and now they are in action.
