MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Somali Council of Ministers convened today for its weekly meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre.
Thursday’s meeting focused on a range of critical issues affecting the country, including security, health, and matters related to the Hajj pilgrimage.
Security updates were a central focus of the meeting, with the Ministries of Internal Security, Defense, and Justice presenting reports on the overall security situation in Somalia.
The council was briefed on the National Army’s ongoing operations to eliminate Khawarij groups in various regions of the country. These operations are aimed at neutralizing the threat posed by these extremist groups and ensuring the safety and security of Somali citizens.
The recent violence at Hamar Central Prison was also discussed, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures within the country’s correctional facilities. The council emphasized the importance of addressing security concerns in prisons to prevent further incidents and protect the well-being of inmates and staff.
In addition to security matters, the meeting also addressed the coordination of local governments and the management of health issues. Reports were presented on the efforts to combat infectious diseases such as watery diarrhea, diphtheria, and measles.

Furthermore, the council reviewed reports related to the Hajj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. The discussions centered on the coordination of local government efforts to facilitate the smooth and safe travel of Somali pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
