MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Somali National Army, supported by local militias, successfully executed an operation near Qaycad in the Mudug region, leading to the death of 30 Al-Shabab militants, among them two prominent leaders, Mohamed Bashir Muse and Maadey Foodey, authorities reported.
The operation, which took place in the early hours, was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Al-Shabab’s infrastructure in Somalia. The military action not only resulted in significant casualties for the militants but also disrupted their operations in the area, a statement from the Ministry of Defense said.
“This operation is part of our broader strategy to ensure the safety and security of all Somali citizens by rooting out terrorist elements wherever they hide,” the Minister of Defence emphasized, underscoring the government’s resolve to combat terrorism.
Local residents expressed cautious optimism, hoping that such military actions would pave the way for lasting peace and the return of stability to regions long afflicted by conflict.
