Egypt pledges continued support for Somalia

Antalya – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdilaati, in Antalya, Turkey, where they discussed strengthening relations and cooperation between the two countries.

 

The meeting took place at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, which was attended by heads of state and diplomats from various countries, and focused on issues of regional cooperation and stability in the Horn of Africa.

During the meeting, the President of Somalia received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt the greetings of the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Meanwhile, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud requested to convey the greetings of the President of Egypt, expressing gratitude for Cairo’s continued support for Mogadishu.

The President of Somalia also stressed that Somalia is committed to further strengthening cooperation with Egypt, in order to advance the interests of both countries and support security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, for his part, confirmed that Cairo will continue its support for Somalia, especially in the political, security, military and humanitarian fields.

He also praised the historical relations between the two countries, saying that Egypt attaches great importance to the unity and independence of Somalia, and the protection of state institutions.

During the meeting, Egypt strongly rejected any action that it described as undermining Somalia’s unity or independence. It also condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and the appointment of a diplomatic representative, describing it as contrary to international law and the principles of the African Union.

The meeting comes at a time when Somalia is increasing its relations with regional and international countries, with a focus on security, reconstruction, and stability in the country.
