MOGADISHU, Somalia – Benadir Regional Police Commander Farhan Mohamud Qaroole arrived at the Shabelle Media Network HQs in Mogadishu tonight, to share his regret over the shooting of the car of SMN Director Abukar Sheikh Mohamud by a policeman on the Makka Al-Mukarama street.

General Farhan Qaroole confirmed that the soldier who irresponsibly fired bullets at the director’s car this afternoon has been arrested and action will be taken against him.

The soldier who was part of a police team searching vehicles at a security checkpoint on Haji Basto Road is in custody, where he is being questioned about the motive behind the shooting of a civilian car with no threat and prior warning.

The unfortunate incident took place shortly after men in military uniform on a motorcycle robbed equipment, including a camera belonging to SMN in front of the media building in Hodon district, around Haji Basto junction.

The police immediately arrested the men but they were released shortly afterwards by the command of the Hodan District Police station without a court order. It was a shocking move contrary to the country’s law.

Shabelle Media Network (SMN) is the most respected and trusted privately-owned radio and television news organization based in Mogadishu, Somalia. It was founded in 2002.
