An explosion strikes Somali capital

MOGADISHU [SMN] – A police source says a deafening blast occurred in downtown Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Wednesday at noon, hours of a security operation.

 

The explosion from an IED fitted to a car struck outside the city mall located in the ancient Hamarweyne district, which houses government offices and key security installations.

The details of the blast still remain murky with police sealed off the scene after the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but Al-Shabaab was blamed.

Mogadishu municipality and security agencies are to comment on the attack which was targeted at an official’s vehicle parked outside the busy suppermarket.
