MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Information of Somalia, Daud Aweys Jama held a press conference in Mogadishu today on the year-long operations against the Al-Shabaab.
The Minister of Information of Somalia said that the operation caused the Al-Shabaab group to lose and lose a lot of land, which was controlled by the group for several decades.
He pointed out that nearly 2,000 Al-Shabaab soldiers were killed in the one-year-old operation, including 57 leaders of the group.
“The operations and direct battles that have been going on for a year have killed one thousand and seven hundred militiamen (1,700) and senior leaders who were important to the Khawarij who were the heirs of Abdullahi Nadir’s group, and the total number of leaders has reached 57 leaders,” said Minister of Information Daud Aweys.
Minister Daud Aweys also said that the operations destroyed 73 bases owned by the group, a large number of weapons and military equipment.
The minister also said that 120 areas, including major cities, have been cleared from Al-Shabaab, which are located in all the regions of the country.
“More than a thousand kilometers of land has been eradicated from the Khawarij within a year, and in addition, 120 areas and districts have been removed from Al-Shabaab, and the pursuit of the group is still ongoing,” said Minister Daud Aweys Jama.
The minister noted that the government’s three-pronged war against Al-Shabaab, direct, financial and social media, has all been defeated.
