FESTU holds a workshop for Somali Labor Unions and Civil Society

MOGADISHU, Somalia – In collaboration with NEXUS, the Federation of Somali Trade Unions, FESTU organized a significant capacity-building workshop for Somali Labor Unions and Civil Society in Mogadishu on Sunday, August 6.

 

The three-day Capacity Building Training Workshop brings together workers and officials from the government and FESTU.

Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, FESTU said the training aims to focus on promoting peace, human rights, and effective work as well as strengthening the rule of law in Somalia.

Speaking at the opening of the training, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Somalia, Dr. Mohamed Elmi welcomed the workshop as timely and will upgrade the capacity of the workers.

For his part, Omar Faruk Osman, FESTU General Secretary said he is supper happy to see Somali Labor Unions and Civil Society benefiting such important capacity building training that kicked off today.

Faruk underlined that there is a deep bond relationship between peace, human rights, and efficient work, and promised that FESTU will leave no stone unturned to safeguard the workers and their rights.

FESTU has a long and proud history of campaigning for the rights of workers in Somalia through the successful ratification of ILO conventions that are vital for the development of workers in the country.

Somali workers face many challenges, including long hours and inadequate wages. FESTU said that it will work to solve the existing problems, with the help of international partners and the Somali government.
